Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the neuropsychomotor development and the gross motor function of children with motor retardation before and after being submitted to aquatic physiotherapy. Methodology: The study was carried out in the Clinical School of Physiotherapy of ____________________, after approval by the CEP, protocol Nº01034/16. The sample was of 06 children up to 03 years of age. The hydrotherapeutic treatment consisted of 33 sessions, with two weekly sessions with strengthening and relaxation exercises based on the Watsu technique. Results: After the intervention, all the children showed improvement in the gross motor function. Regarding motor retardation, four children had an increased risk, and the motor delay of one of the patients disappeared. Conclusion: Aquatic physiotherapy was an effective treatment in the improvement of gross motor function.
