Introduction: Anemia of chronic disease (ADC) is classified as the type of anemia that arises when there is a chronic, infectious, inflammatory or neoplastic disease basis disease. In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), the pathophysiology of CKD is manifested when there is a cytokine-mediated immune response that causes an increase in ferritin, retaining more iron in the macrophages. The diagnosis of ADC is made through the clinical evaluation of the patient and laboratory tests. With regard to treatment, therapeutic measures should be adopted, such as iron replacement, administration of erythropoietin and in some cases transfusion of packed red blood cells.Aims: To make a narrative review of the literature involving the various factors related to anemia in CKD.Methodology: Consolidated search through scientific articles, theses, reviews and dissertations, in the databases Scielo, PubMed, Academic, CAPES Journals Portal and Virtual Health Library (BVS) using the key words "anemia of chronic disease" and "Chronic kidney disease". Conclusion: In order to avoid the evolution of the disease, an early diagnosis and treatment is essential, in this sense the biomedicine professional plays an important role, whether in the diagnosis, monitoring or research by new therapeutic methods.
