Abstract

Introduction: The increasing energy demand of the last decades has contributed to the demand for renewable energy sources and for a more rational use of the energetic resources available. In this sense, energy cogeneration stands out in the economic context, environmental and energy context because it makes possible the reutilization of energy in the productive system. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the efficiency of a cogeneration system that uses for electric power generation the GAF (Blast Furnace Gas), a byproduct of the pig iron production process. Methodology: In order to measure the efficiency of the system, the indicator OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) was used from the philosophy TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) which makes it possible to verify the efficiency losses. Result:The cogeneration unit reached the 50% OEE index, with an average monthly production of 779,170 KWh of electricity. Conclusion: It was observed in the study that the OEE indicator presented satisfactory results in the monitoring of the cogeneration system, because in addition to measuring the performance of the system, presented an overview of the process.
