Abstract

Introduction: This article problematizes the history of difficulties of the Brazilian working class in having access with dignity to housing and education. In particular, it presents the current situation of urban occupations and their inhabitants in relation to these rights. Objective: The objective is to question if these difficulties were constituted and can be solved by building a development and education project for society in general, and urban occupations in particular. Methodology: To this end, the methodology of this work consisted of a literature review on the subject, through consultations in books, dissertations, articles and other scientific productions. Results: The result was that the hegemonic projects of development, housing and education implemented yesterday and today did not attend to or serve the Brazilian working class, among them urban dwellers, but rather, they contemplate the interests of the ruling class. Conclusion: It is necessary, the reflection, construction and application of counter-hegemonic and popular theories and projects of education and development that attend to urban occupations and their residents, and Brazilian society in general.
