Special Issue, Thematic Dossier: “Democracy and Big Techs: The War of Affects from Other Perspectives”
The Revista do Curso de Direito do UNIFOR hereby announces the Call for Papers – Public Notice No. 01/2026, inviting scholars, researchers, and members of the academic community to submit original and unpublished scientific articles for the thematic dossier entitled:
“Democracy and Big Techs: The War of Affects from Other Perspectives”
This special issue, curated by Professor Dr. José Luiz Quadros de Magalhães and Professor Dr. Nélida Reis Caseca Machado, proposes the continuation and deepening of the debate initiated in a previous issue, which revealed the complexity and contemporaneity of the relationships between technology, democracy, and affects.
The dossier aims to bring together studies that critically analyze how Big Techs, through algorithms, artificial intelligence, and informational strategies, mobilize emotions, resentments, and fears, thereby impacting social behaviors, political decisions, democratic culture, subjectivity, and the very foundations of the Rule of Law. The proposal seeks to broaden perspectives, welcome new theoretical and methodological approaches, and explore dimensions of this phenomenon that remain underexplored.
Suggested thematic axes (non-exhaustive):
- Democracy and regulation of digital platforms
- Affects, algorithms, and political behavior
- Disinformation, fake news, and emotional manipulation
- Freedom of expression and content moderation
- Cancel culture and digital affects
- Digital governance and fundamental rights
- Ethics of technology and the responsibility of Big Techs
- Social justice, digital inclusion, and affective resistance
Manuscripts may be submitted from March 1 to July 30, 2026, through the journal’s online platform, under the special issue article category, with ahead-of-print publication, concluding in December 2026.
Articles must be original, comply with ABNT standards, and may be written in Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, or Italian.
The peer-review process will be double-blind, in accordance with the journal’s editorial criteria, as outlined in the Author Guidelines.
