The present study intends to analyze the Declaration on multinational enterprises approved under the aegis of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Such a document, which has been updated several times after its first edition (in 1977), is quite significant, especially in the area of Labor Law (individual and collective). Given the focus of this analysis, aimed at examining the ILO Declaration, the expression “multinational enterprise” will be used exclusively rather than any other similar ones. Being the ILO a one-hundred-year-old organization (100 years old in 2019), which brings together 187 Member States, it certainly has credibility to put forward propositions on the theme of multinational enterprises and to suggest correct conducts for these economic entities, with a civilizing aim, to ensure that free enterprise has restraints to enhance the recognition of labor’s social values.
