Educação em Direitos Humanos: reflexões contemporâneas nas Instituições de Ensino Superior

This article presents a discussion about Human Rights Education in the context of Institutions of Higher Education - IES. It is an applied, bibliographical and documentary research whose objective is to characterize the public policy of Education in Human Rights. It approaches through a literature review the main conceptual aspects, the normative frameworks as object of the Brazilian educational context, as well as its implications for the deepening of the debate that deals with human rights as a fundamental tool in the formation of citizens and mechanism of protection against social injustices. Therefore, it is also about discussing the legacy already reinforced in several legal instruments that calls for cooperation to promote and encourage respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. The results show that, in spite of the different foundations, characterizations and concepts, it is observed that the main objective of this public policy is the protection of the dignity of the human person. Finally, it can be concluded IES have prioritized systematically Human Rights Education in educational action as a fundamental element in building citizenship and strengthening Democracy.
