Abstract

ABSTRACT: This article deals with the impact of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) in Brazil through an analysis of the jurisprudence of the Federal Supreme Court (STF). From this perspective, the following problem arises: Does the STF use CEDAW as a basis for the protection of women's human rights in its decisions? Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze the possible impact of CEDAW in Brazil through STF jurisprudence. Thus, in order to achieve the intended general objective, this study has a qualitative approach and an applied nature. Regarding the methodology, it can be considered exploratory. The method used is deductive, and the predominant procedure technique is jurisprudential and bibliographical research. Thus, the general aspects of the international system of human rights and the protection of women were shown. The essential elements for understanding CEDAW were also shown. Thus, it was concluded that the STF's evolution in the use of CEDAW mechanisms is visible, generating a great legal impact for women's rights.
